Teresa Audet is an artist working at the intersection of craft, mechanics, and performance art. Her work seeks to define the shape of indescribable phenomena. What color is trauma or depression? What shape does hopefulness take in physical form? Utilizing robotics alongside handcrafted wood, reed, and paper pulp, her exhibition Squiggly on the Inside, explores the somatic experiences of living with mental illness. Meandering lines signify wandering woven thoughts, together with structural grids and wooden milestones document the construction of a life worth living. Through unexpected emotional interaction, humor, and play, Audet brings to focus our both joyous and painful humanity, removing the shroud of shame from these collective experiences.
