In May 2024, Made at the UW, a Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) event, brought visitors to the Art Lofts, home to several of the Art Department’s workshops, faculty and student studios, and gallery spaces. Groups toured the facility and spent time with five faculty members as they brought them into their workspaces.

WAA shared an article about the event, spotlighting the work of these faculty and their studios. They include John Hitchcock, professor and associate dean for the arts in the School of Education (printmaking and serigraphy); Julie Chen, professor (printmaking/book art/paper making); Helen Lee, associate professor and director of UW–Madison’s Glass Lab (glassworking); Fred Stonehouse, associate professor (painting); and Christina West, associate professor (sculpture).

The article also highlights Matthew Mauk, a metalsmith and program manager in the Art Department, who led visitors on a tour of one of the Art Department’s woodshops, an adjacent foundry room for large-scale alumnimum and bronze casting, the ceramics lab, and the BackSpace Gallery.
