Sarah FitzSimons makes sculpture which interacts with and derives meaning from its surroundings. Much of the work seeks to reconnect our constructed culture with wider patterns of nature, and aims to extend beyond the bubble of the ‘small, nearby and short-term’. FitzSimons has been awarded significant private and public grants from the Efroymson Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in addition to funding from art residencies such as the MacDowell Colony (NH); I-Park (CT); Vermont Studio Center (VT); Djerassi Foundation (CA); and Wadden Art Foundation (Denmark).
During the past 4 years, she’s presented 3 solo exhibitions of her work, and her sculptures have recently been featured in Tatter Journal (Brooklyn, NY), Art Dose Magazine (Sheboygan, WI), and OZ Journal (Kansas State University). sarahfitzsimons.net
