Congratulations to Dr. Ebony Flowers, I’m SO PROUD of her!
She took my first class in 2012, when I was artist in residence. She came in with no drawing experience whatsoever. Not a line.
This award is for her work in comics.
AND
She is the first recipient of this award EVER for COMICS!
Though she wasn’t an art major or art grad student the Art department literally changed her life and transformed her mode of academic inquiry. Her Graphic Dissertation is the first of it’s kind.
GIANT Thank you to UW Art Dept. None of this would have happened otherwise. It’s genuinely groundbreaking.
I spent all day hanging a show in the Image Lab at the WID about her dissertation if you are ever in the neighborhood it will be up until Oct 8th.
