Living the intertwined life of a brewery electrician and an artist, Chris Murphy (BFA ’84) brings his art on the road with him when he’s traveling outside of Madison for work.

But to the layman, the materials Murphy carries around may not seem like typical art supplies. After working a 10-12 hour day with wires and gadgets, he heads back to his hotel and applies the same tools to his artistic palette.

Murphy, 57, sculpts and assembles his artwork out of electrical supplies — loose wires, electrical odds and ends — often incorporating lights or moving parts. He has worked on projects in Madison and Milwaukee, including several features of the Possible-opolis exhibit at the Madison Children’s Museum.
