As your new chair, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the start of the semester at the University of Wisconsin Art Department. If it is your first semester or if you are returning, you will find that our faculty is deeply committed to art as a part of the very fabric of life; to creativity and self-expression in all its forms and to creating a safe and supportive space for you to express yourselves through your work here. Let’s start the year by committing to a culture of respect for each other, for the spaces you inhabit and for yourselves. Art matters.
