UW-Madison's Fred Stonehouse was selected to participate in the Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts to be held in the galleries of the American Academy of Arts and Letters from March 10 through April 10, 2016.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently highlighted a retrospective from UW-Madison's Fred Stonehouse, “The Promise of Distant Things,” featured in the Museum of Wisconsin Art. Stonehouse is a faculty member with the School of Education’s Art Department. He currently teaches courses in painting and drawing.

UW-Madison’s Carlos Gacharná is profiled in an in-depth report posted Dec. 10 to the Madison365.com website. The article is headlined, “Social Justice Through Art: UW-Madison student Carlos Gacharná mixes art and activism.” Gacharná is an undergraduate studying with the School of Education’s Art Department. The article begins by noting that “Gacharná knows how much art can play an important role in social justice education, community building, and social activism.”

The Capital Times recently posted a slide show to its website featuring a series of photos from students taking a Ceramics 1 class on the UW-Madison campus. Cap Times photographer Michelle Stocker visited students doing work at the Art Department’s Ceramics Studio in the Art Lofts Building on campus. The Capital Times notes that the “class offers the fundamentals of forming clay, teaching hand-building, throwing, slip-casting and press molding techniques. The studio has clay mixing equipment, a glaze studio, storage area and a kiln room.”

The UW-Madison sculpture exhibition, “Means to an End,” will run through Dec. 3 in Gallery 7, located on the seventh floor of the Humanities Building. There will be a reception on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Gallery 7. This exhibition brings together sculpture work from graduate students ​within UW-Madison Art Department and is curated by Victoria Reed Nieman and Justin Playl.

The work of UW-Madison's Barry Roal Carlsen will be on display at the Artisan Gallery through Dec. 31 in Paoli, Wis. Carlsen is a printmaking lecturer with the School of Education’s Art Department.

The work of UW-Madison’s Derrick Buisch will be featured through Dec. 2 at the Rockford (Ill.) University Art Gallery. The exhibition, titled, "Levitation Lessons: Monsters, Buildings & Other Abstractions,” is available for viewing at the following times: Mondays through Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m., Fridays from 12-3 p.m., and by appointment.

Professor Douglas Rosenberg has been selected by UW-Madison’s Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives to receive an OMAI/First Wave Outstanding Faculty/Staff Recognition Award. Rosenberg chairs the School of Education’s Art Department. This award honors UW-Madison faculty and staff who go above and beyond in their efforts to support student success both inside and outside of the classroom.
