Faculty and alumni from UW–Madison’s Art Department are among those featured in the 2025 Wisconsin Triennial, which opened May 2 at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). The exhibition, a major survey of contemporary art in the state, includes work by nine current faculty members and several graduates of UW–Madison’s art programs.

Through a selection process that began with more than 250 applications from across Wisconsin, 24 artists were chosen for the exhibition. Those with UW–Madison ties include faculty artists Sarah FitzSimons, Gerit Grimm, John Hitchcock, Katie Hudnall, Tom Jones, Helen Lee, Leslie Smith III, Michael Velliquette and Christina A. West. The exhibition also features work by MFA alumni Taj Matumbi and Guzzo Pinc, as well as bachelor’s alumni Kelli Hoppmann and Teresa Abel.

Running through Sept. 14, the Triennial showcases a broad range of media and artistic approaches — from painting and sculpture to installation and performance. The museum is also hosting a variety of public programs and events to accompany the exhibition, including Strut performances and artist talks.

The Triennial highlights the diversity and strength of Wisconsin’s visual arts communities. “We are confident that we have curated an exceptional group of artists whose practices beautifully reflect the richness of Wisconsin’s contributions to global contemporary art,” said Paul Baker Prindle, MMoCA’s Gabriele Haberland Director, who is also a UW–Madison art alumnus.
