UW–Madison’s Erica Halverson started off the new year with a new episode of her podcast, “Arts Educators Save the World,” speaking with Aaron Bossen, a glass artist and PhD student in materials science engineering at Penn State University, along with his mentor, Helen Lee, the director of the UW–Madison Glass Lab.
Halverson, a professor in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, launched her podcast in 2022 to bring successful artists together in conversation with their teachers and mentors to share how those collaborations made them who they are today. Recent guests have included actors Bradley Whitford and Jonathan Groff, multimedia artist (and UW–Madison alumnus) Carlos Gacharná, Broadway stage manager Cody Renard Richard, and more.
In the Jan. 1 episode, Lee, who holds the Helen Burish Faculty Fellowship with the School of Education’s Art Department, and Bossen, who studied with Lee when he was an undergraduate student at UW–Madison, delve into the art of making glass and making with glass, discussing it both as a material and a metaphor for life.
