Employing Orientalist aesthetics, Chanee Choi’s work combines East Asian traditional crafts and new media, forming a hybrid genre focused on immersive experiences that explore the specific dynamics of East Asia’s history of hierarchical social structures through a feminist lens. Originally from South Korea, Choi is a multidisciplinary game artist and Ph.D. candidate in Art and Technology at DXARTS at the University of Washington who lives, works, and studies in Seattle, Washington. Her projects and exhibitions have been shown domestically and internationally, New York, Chicago, Covington, Kentucky, Seattle, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Taipei, Berlin, Helsinki, and Seoul. She earned her BFA in Craft Design from Dongduk Women’s University and her MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the Art Institute of Chicago. chaneec.com
