MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)— A new art installation on State Street on Tuesday, and it’s has been nearly three years in the making.
The art installation on the Library Mall was a commission awarded through the City of Madison.
One of the collaborators, David Dahlquist [BS-Art ’80] said he and his partner, Matt Neibuhr, were inspired by water and the flow of student traffic when designing the piece.
We went up to the top of the Humanities Building, and on a busy day, if you could imagine all the students that are walking through the space, they part at an island, and then they come back together. There’s the sense of turbulence that is created,” said Dahlquist.
Dahlquist said he hopes that the art installation creates an environment of its own for people to gather.
A dedication ceremony is set for June 1.
