crosswalk is proud to announce, Baragwanath, a group exhibition, celebrating the one-year anniversary of crosswalk.
On April 15th 1890, the City of Chicago issued a permit for $4.00 to H. W. Baragwanath for the land that 1856 N Richmond St. would be later built on. Records of who H.W. Baragwanath could be only point in one direction according to Chicago directories; to William Baragwanath, a boilermaker. When construction began on ‘1856’, no records existed of an architect and none would. The framework began with Baragwanath as both the architect and builder.
Work exhibited in Baragwanath, represents the act of construction, both the literal motifs and as a representation.
