A project by UW–Madison graduate student Jonah Figueroa-Daley, an MFA candidate in the School of Education’s Art Department, has been selected as one of the most timely and innovative glassworks produced this year, earning a spot in New Glass Review 44.
Published annually by the Corning Museum of Glass, New Glass Review showcases 100 cutting-edge projects in glass, chosen through an open submission process. In 2024, 737 individuals and collaborators from 44 countries submitted a total of 2,022 entries.
Figueroa-Daley’s piece, titled “EPIDERMIS//HYPODERMIS,” combines glass with pink fiberglass insulation to create a thought-provoking visual exploration of skin and tissue. Figueroa-Daley describes the work on his Instagram page as the first in a series of “skin tissue objects” that he developed throughout 2023. The piece was also shown as part of Glass Madison.
