Vibrating lines morph into playful symbols of pop culture and brilliant color combinations provide jolts of electric energy in paintings by Derrick Buisch. Meant to be visually engaging and potentially unnerving, Buisch combines evocative imagery with moments of uneasy hilarity.
A painting professor in Madison since 1997, Buisch currently serves as the Chair of the Art Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Buisch has exhibited in many national and regional museum exhibitions including the Tory Folliard Gallery, James Watrous Gallery, Wisconsin Triennials, and University Gallery of the Center for Art and Theatre at Southern Georgia University. Buisch’s new site-specific paintings were included in a recent 2016 Wisconsin Triennial at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the 2020 Faculty Exhibition at the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, Wisconsin. Buisch is a recipient of a 2017 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant. Buisch received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and his MFA from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. 202c.com
