Michael Weiss is a Baltimore-based artist who uses traditional painting materials and methods to create contemporary images containing oblique, but not opaque content. The organic nature of his work develops through a manipulation of paint and surface to reveal an image, offering information of a potential, rather than specific meaning.
Weiss has exhibited widely throughout the region and his work is a part of numerous private and corporate collections. He is currently serving as the Associate Dean of Fine Arts and the First Year Experience at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he has been a full-time faculty member since 2003, teaching in the Foundation Drawing, General Fine Arts, and Painting departments. Weiss has received grants from the Creative Baltimore Fund (2008) and the Maryland State Arts Council (2000). mw-mw.com
