About the Website

Current Direction:

The current direction of this website is to help facilitate more of a community feeling within the art department students and faculty than currently exists. A Community section has been added to allow there to be a central discussion area easily accessible to all art students. The Art Resources section has been upgraded to a database driven, user submitted listing so that students and faculty may share the resources with others. We are also in the process of going through the information that already existed by updating it or removing it as necessary.

There are future plans for this site in the works as well in the hopes of making this a place for alumni to come and share their experiences and wisdom with current art students, and hopefully future art students, at the UW.

If you have questions or concernes about the site, please feel free to contact us.

Site History:

This website was originally called the "Professional Practices in the Arts." It was a beginning website that was hoped to grow to a repository of knowledge for both art students and professionals alike. Originally, art students may have found it of more use as they are looking to either move from their undergraduate careers into the art world or into graduate school.

This project was started by Sophia Allison and Dan LaValley at the UW-Madison Art program as an effort to codify what they felt was essential background information for making the move into the professional arts world.

This site was made possible by grants from the Evjue Foundation (1998, 1999, 2002 & 2003)
