Tandem Press is one of only three professional presses affiliated with a university in the United States. At Tandem, internationally renowned artists create editions of prints and interact with graduate and undergraduate students.
Tandem was created to ensure a continued leading role in UW-Madison’s rich printmaking tradition. To do this, Tandem adheres to the philosophy that students must play integral roles in its operation. Over the years hundreds of students have apprenticed at Tandem, where they worked closely with artists, master printers, and Tandem staff. The success of Tandem Press could not have been achieved without the help of the many students who have worked there since its inception.
In addition to the student apprenticeships, Art Department faculty teach three-credit courses every semester at the press.
Tandem prints hang in numerous museums and corporations throughout the United States including: The Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Museum of American Art in Washington D.C.
