Acknowledging a profound loss

Professor Emeritus, Don Reitz passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  Born in 1929, Don Reitz received his masters from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in the early 1960’s. As Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Don shaped our students for 26 years and influenced generations of artists.

His list of awards is lengthy and led to his being recognized as one of the top 12 living ceramists by Ceramics Monthly  and receiving the Gold Medal – the highest honor bestowed - by the American Craft Council. Reitz is represented by key museums in the U.S., including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Renwick Museum of Art in Washington, D.C.

We have lost one of the most important and influential ceramists in the world. A loss that can only be termed profound.
