Erin Cosgrove will speak of her films and multimedia art projects that use a combination of pop culture and didacticism to subvert both forms.

She creates film and multimedia art projects that include Seven Romance Novels, which comprises of seven published satiric romance novels. The first of which, The Baader-Meinhof Affair, set a college romance plotline amongst the members of a strange cult dedicated to the famous German terrorist group. The Baader-Meinhof Affair was published by Printed Matter, Inc. These books often inspire film projects and other visual works. The Sundance Channel funded her short film, A Heart Lies Beneath based on The Baader-Meinhof Affair.

Cosgrove’s latest project, What Manner of Person Art Thou?, is an elaborate animation that follows two characters, Yoder and Troyer, the only two survivors of two small colonies somewhere in the Northwestern United States, after a series of catastrophes and epidemics.

Erin Cosgrove lives in Los Angeles. She received her BFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1996, and her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001. Cosgrove has had solo exhibitions at the Espace Croisé Centre d’art Contemporain, Roubaix, France; Carl Berg Gallery, Los Angeles; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and Printed Matter Inc., New York. Group exhibitions of her work include the Cola Fellowship Exhibition, Los Angeles; City Beat, Internet Video Exhibition, the Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles Art Now, the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, and Videoframes in Auvergne, France and Galleri S.E.
